Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®


Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on January 15, 1908, on the campus of Howard University, in Washington, D.C. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. Alpha Kappa Alpha is comprised of nearly 300,000 members in approximately 1,022 graduate and undergraduate chapters in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Liberia, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Dubai, Germany, Japan, Liberia, and South Korea.

Founders

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporate®, started with nine women who were college graduates of Howard University.  The initial nine, all with special talents and abilities invited seven more college educated women, which comprised and became known as the original 16 founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

The NAR of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® covers chapters in 13 states.  They are Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maine, Maryland Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
